Why Hillary Clinton can count on NOT getting my vote

In the world of policy, Senator Clinton is more to my liking than Obama – she’s greener, she’s got a more progressive health care plan, and she says she’ll pull out all of our troops from Iraq (something Obama isn’t promising to do – he’d like to leave a few here and there). However, I’m happily taking a pragmatic stance in this election and voting for Obama, who I think can bring a higher level of positive impact to this country over Hillary’s spotty, deep impact policy.

But this post isn’t about why I’m voting for Senator Obama or why I’m captivated by him; this post is about why Hillary can count on NOT getting my vote and it comes down to her subtle racism and her destructive nature. I’ll address the later first; Hillary is fulfilling one of the most negative characteristics placed on her by her political rivals: she will do anything to win.

The truth is that it is going to be next to impossible for Hillary to get the Democrats’ nomination. If she does get the nomination it be the result of tooth and nail lobbying to party big wigs, which will inevitably make her an easy target for those who wish to call her “ruthless” and “whiny.” She probably won’t get the nomination, however. She will be successful in attacking Obama in any way possible and significantly hurting the Democrats’ chance in a general election.

The reason I would find it close to impossible to vote for Hillary even if she were to garner enough delegates to secure the nomination is because of her use of bigotry in this election. First, she’s pushing the Wright issue. Second, her willingness to allow some question on the issue of Obama’s faith. “Is he a Muslim? Probably not,” says Hillary.

It is despicable that Muslim faith is even an issue, but it is even more despicable that Hillary knowingly uses a sensitive issue with no backing whatsoever to play on people’s bigotry.

I now find myself emailing the Clinton campaign, almost daily (obviously an almost futile effort), asking her to end her racist, bigoted tactics that work to further divide out country in place of uniting it. She has become a fear monger of, dare i say it? Karl Rove proportions.

On that note, here’s a little video I find to be very applicable to this post.

It’s no good to advocate voting for someone (Obama) because of how disappointed someone else (Hillary) is making you feel, that’s why I plan, in future posts, to lay down the reasons I will be voting for Obama come my state’s primary and in November. This post simply explains an element of my view of the Obama-Clinton debate.

Here’s some good news regarding the Wright issue: Obama seems to be rebounding after a slight fall in the polls, according to a recent Gallup Poll.

  1. Hip, Hip, Hooray! Thank you for this focused and intelligent approach. Thank you for the link to the video, which I hadn’t seen yet – yes, an eloquent example of the truth behind fear tactics. Thank you for your contribution to what I believe is the really important issue here (and to what I fear risks getting lost in the muddle of Hillary’s “me-first, me-first” urge), i.e. the fact that we NEED to get beyond the fear tactics and the fear; we NEED for the rest of the world to see that we CAN, yes, we CAN, move on and away from the mindset that has informed American policy, domestic and foreign, for the past umpteen years.
I would just like to point out that, despite the claims of the Clinton campaign in re the vote of women, I come from a family where there is an 85-year-old superstar grandmother who is FOR OBAMA, a 54-year-old superstar single mother and inspirational teacher who is FOR OBAMA, a 28-year-old daughter/niece/granddaughter who is living abroad in an attempt to improve life in one of the poorest countries in the world and who is FOR OBAMA, a 19-year-old daughter/niece/granddaughter who is a brilliant creative artist who is FOR OBAMA … and where there is me, a 56-year-old teacher who is FOR OBAMA. (Oh, and our men are FOR OBAMA, too!)
Hillary’s “Not as far as I know” response to a query about Obama’s religion put paid to her claims to honesty and decency, as far as I am concerned. I am now following Mr. Dean and the DNC very closely – their decisions will be telling, for the campaign, the elections and the future of our country. The brilliant Frank Rich, in today’s NYT, made some excellent points – as have several other honest, coherent and eloquent political writers. But the most telling comment was in the accompanying cartoon … Hillary and Barack pointing at each other; McCain with two raised thumbs.
    Heaven help us.
But thank you for your contribution. I will be checking in regularly.
