Jack the Blogger Misses the Point
Jack, over at The Western Word, got an email from Jon Tester endorsing Jim Hunt (wouldn’t it be great to have them both in congress?) and boy o’ boy did that make him angry. According to Jack, the email endorsing Hunt states, “We can send another real Montanan to bring real change…”
Jack, a Rehberg supporter, writes,
Interesting. The last I heard, Rehberg is a 5th Generation Montanan and Hunt is a 4th Generation Montanan, so Rehberg seems to be the “real Montanan,” if that category really counts to the voters.
As fond as I am about tracing back Montana bloodlines (I’m not being sarcastic), Jack misses the point. Rehberg may be a “5th generation Montanan,” but he doesn’t understand what is important to Montanans – he doesn’t embody our values. An example? Rehberg supported the Real ID Act, then learned that Montanans would rip him apart if he voted for it. His response, “oh! I didn’t realize Montanans weren’t big fans of the federal government intruding on their privacy! Montana’s constitution specifically lays out privacy rights?! What?!”
Rehberg can wear all the cowboy hats he wants, but he’s not a Montanan; Rehberg’s a Washington insider that spends too many nights sleeping on his couch next to the beltway.
