Hunt raises more money than Rehberg, but where’s Baucus?

Pogie, over at Intelligent Discontent, already posted about this article, but something else in the article caught my eye. According to an AP article released today,

Democrat Jim Hunt topped incumbent Congressman Denny Rehberg in this quarter’s campaign finance reports.

Hunt, who entered the race in February, reported raising about $133,000. Rehberg, a Republican, reported raising about $107,000.

But Rehberg, who has been raising money since last year, reported a much larger war chest.

The incumbent has more than half a million dollars on hand, compared with the $115,000 Hunt had left at the end of the quarter.

Hunt is touting his experience as an Army National Guard officer, avid sportsmen and Helena lawyer as he tries to unseat Rehberg.

U.S. Sen. Max Baucus reported another huge fund raising quarter in his race, stocking away another $1 million. His Republican challengers have so far raised little in comparison.

As Pogie pointed out, this is a great sign for Hunt and hopefully an indicator of an enthusiastic and energetic base for Hunt. I couldn’t help but notice Baucus’ numbers. Baucus has a war chest and has an extremely minimal chance of losing in November. Why isn’t he out campaigning for Hunt? Tester is out there campaigning for Hunt and Tester has a much less secure Senate seat.

I am reminded of the Tester campaign; Schweitzer was out there, in force, for Tester. Where was Baucus?

Why isn’t Baucus aiding the Democrats’ battle to take back Montana. Where is he and why isn’t he helping?

I’d ask Baucus to stop flying under the radar and help his fellow Montanan Democrats.
